Artist Airbnb Apartment in Beyoğlu, Istanbul
For our first 4 nights in Istanbul, we stayed at an artist’s Airbnb apartment in the trendy Beyoğlu district. It’s just a 5-minute walk from Taksim Square.
We got an Uber taxi from Istanbul SAW airport, so didn’t have any problem finding the apartment. A friend of the owner met us when we arrived and gave us the keys.
The Living Room
The apartment is on the raised ground floor and the living room windows look out onto the street. The artist owner has many painting in the living room, so it’s quite colorful and homely.
The room is comfortable and has a huge sofa, dining table, large TV and aircon. There are bars on all the windows but the neighborhood feels very safe and friendly.
The kitchen was quite well-equipped and had everything we needed. There was a 4-ring gas stove for cooking. There was a coffee-grinder and coffee maker as well, although we didn’t use them.
The bedroom looked great when we first saw it, but the bed was a big disappointment. The mattress was very soft and uncomfortable and there was what seemed like a winter duvet on the bed. This meant we were very hot in bed. There was no aircon in the bedroom either.
The room was dark at night though, which is a good thing.
The bathroom was fine and the shower worked well. A washing machine was available. There was an iron in the apartment but no ironing board. When I asked the owner about this, he said the last guest had burnt it and he’s ordered a new one but it hadn’t arrived yet.
The Spare Room
There was a spare room that one Airbnb reviewer said was the room the artist used for his work. There was a door from this room leading to a balcony at the back of the building but it was locked.
The wifi was a decent speed, although it did switch itself off and on a few times each day. It wasn’t really a problem because it always came back on within a couple of minutes.
The location is great. Just a 5-minute walk from Taksim Square with numerous restaurants and shops nearby. The fantastic Vegan Dukkan Restaurant is only 450 meters away.
