How to Get From Dubrovnik Bus Station to the Old Town

After having so many taxis scam us so far on our travels, we were determined to get to our apartment in Dubrovnik without having to us a taxi.

We arrived at Dubrovnik bus station from Sarajevo. We checked the taxi situation beforehand and were told that taxis from the bus station to the old town usually cost 15 EUR. Uber is apparently around half that price. That’s for a distance of only 3 km.

Maybe living in Bangkok has spoiled me. A 3 km taxi ride there would only cost 2 or 3 EUR.

Walking 3 km would only take you about 30 minutes, so if you only have a backpack you might want to consider that. As we had suitcases, getting a bus was the easiest option.

In the photo above you can see our bus on the right hand side. This is Dubrovnik bus station.

In the building in front of the bus there’s a ticket office from where you can bus bus tickets into town. They cost 1.73 EUR each. We bought our tickets here.

Once you have your tickets, walk across the zebra crossing and you’ll be at the main road. Turn right and you’ll see the bus stop around 20 meters away. This is where you get the bus from.

Bus numbers 1A, 1B, 1C, and 3 stop as this bus stop. They all head towards the old town.

Get on at the front of the bus and scan your tickets. From there, it’s only a 5-10 minute ride into town.

You’ll know when you get to the old town because this is where nearly everyone gets off.

The return journey is just as easy. In the photo above you can see the office where you buy the bus tickets from. A little further back you can see the bus stop. This is where you got you got off if you came by bus. At the back of the photo you can see the old town walls and the main entrance.

So, just buy your bus tickets at the office, wait for bus number 1A, 1B, 1C or 3 at the same bus stop, and take the short ride to the bus station. We’ll be doing this in a couple of day when we head to Kotor in Montenegro.
