Kotor Old Town Cats Museum and Cats
If you love cats, you’ll love Kotor in Montenegro. Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but most people don’t know that there are hundreds of friendly cats roaming around the old town.
Everywhere you look, you’ll see cats. Sit down for food and there’ll be a few cats wanting to share your meal. Kotor also has a small cat museum. It doesn’t have any real cats though, just old and interesting cat photos and cat adverts. The 1 EUR admission fee is used to help feed the town’s cats.
You won’t find any skinny, under-nourished cats in Kotor. They’re all well-fed and spend their days either asleep in the sun and trying to get food from tourists.
The Cats Museum
This is a small, but interesting museum dedicated to everything about cats. It costs 1 EUR to enter. Each exhibit has a number next to it and you get a laminated card with details of each one.
The exhibits are arranged in two rooms. There is also a small shop area at the entrance that sells cat postcards, fridge magnets, etc.
There follows a small selection of the exhibits.

Cats Around Town
There follows a very small sample of the cats we saw around the town. There are literally hundreds of cats. You will love it here if you’re a cat lover.
In one corner of the town, the cats have small homes. The cats here are regularly fed. There were around 30 cats in this area when we were there.
This cat has a beautiful home.
This friendly cat took a liking to my wife. We had to stay longer than planned because it didn’t want to get off her lap.
This cat is patiently waiting for the waiter to bring today’s menu.
Even if you’re eating ice cream, the cats will still be expecting to share it.
Where to stay in Kotor Old Town
While in Kotor we stayed in two different apartments. We can recommend both of them. The first one was Kotor Old Town Apartment. The second one was Boskovic Apartment. Both apartments were owned by the same person.
If you prefer to book a different hotel or apartment, you can find one using the Agoda search box above.
