Metelkova City Autonomous Cultural Centre, Ljubljana

Metelkova City Autonomous Cultural Centre is also known as Metelkova Art Center or AKC. Wikipedia describes this as “a self-managed and well-organized community. There is no legal status for the site, and the type of urbanism we can find is informal”.

This used to be the headquarters of the Yugoslav National Army. When the army left, squatters took over.

Metelkova has been squatted since 1993. It consists of 7 buildings on 12,500 sqm of land.
