Our Very Spacious Airbnb Apartment Next to a War-damaged Building in Mostar
There are many war-damaged building is Mostar, but we weren’t expecting our Airbnb apartment to be right next to one of them. It really brings home to you what the war in the early 1990s must have been like.
It must have been terrifying living in the old town not knowing if your building was going to be obliterated or not. It makes me appreciate our precious our lives are.
But don’t let that put you off staying here. The apartment is very spacious and only around 200 meters from Start Most. We originally booked it for 3 days but extended our stay to 2 weeks. We had to move out for 2 days though, as it had already been booked by another guest.
The apartment is in a old-style building but has been renovated throughout. The furniture is pretty retro, so this gives the apartment a very homely feel. It felt like we were at home rather than traveling.
This apartment would be very comfortable for a family of 4, so felt very roomy for just the two of us. It was nice to have some extra space, as our previous Airbnb apartments were much smaller.
There was a massive TV in the living room with free Netflix and a range of other channels. We don’t usually watch TV, but used this one more than usual.
The bedroom was also huge. It had a double bed, single bed, and cot for a baby.
Even with three beds, there was still enough space for a 3-seater settee, an armchair, a table and two chairs.
There were two large windows facing the road to the front with views to the small park opposite.
In keeping with the rest of the apartment, the kitchen was also large. It had hob, oven, dishwasher, and a whole range of pots, pants, dishes, and cutlery. There was more than enough tea and coffee for our 2-week stay, as well as a range of other items such as cooking oil, condiments, etc.
There was also a big kitchen table that could seat six people.
The bathroom was fully renovated. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Shower gel and shampoo were provided. There was also a washing machine there, which we made full use of. It’s always a bonus to have a washing machine available when traveling for many months.
The kitchen opened out to a large private terrace that had table chairs. We had breakfast there on the warm days.
As mentioned above, the location was fantastic. It’s only 200 meters to Stari Most. It’s opposite a small park, and it’s only around 200 meters to Lucki Most, a bridge from where you can take great photos of Stari Most, the old bridge.
The photo above was taken from Lucki Most. Most is Bosnian for bridge.
I can highly recommend this apartment if you’re planning to visit Mostar. When we come back, this is where we’ll stay.
