Split Photo Diary
We spent a total of around three weeks in Split this year spread across two visits. Both times, the weather was pretty bad, so I didn’t manage to take many good photos. As the saying goes, it is what it is. This is what we did and saw.
This photo diary is more for myself than a list of what others should see or do. If you’ve never visited Split, it should give you some idea of what it’s like.
The Old Town
For most tourists visiting Split, Diocletian’s Palace and the old town are the main attractions, so I’ll start the photo diary there. There’s so much more to do in Split though, so get out and about to other areas as well.
This is a weird attraction. It’s a hand sculpture high up on a wall spouting water into a cup at ground level. Most tourists complain that there’s rarely any water, but we were lucky enough to see it in action.
One of Split’s many beautiful buildings.
This is a popular stop for group tours. It’s just north of the old town and next to Park Josipa Jurja Strossmayera.
Park Josipa Jurja Strossmayera is a peaceful area to spend some time.
The Riva is usually packed with tourists. When it rains you have the place almost to yourself.
Marjan Hill
If you visit Split, taking a walk up Marjan Hill should be on your to-do list. You’ll get spectacular views of the town and enjoy time in nature. See A Walk Up Marjan Hill for more info.
Cats
There are lots of cats all around Split. If you love cats, see Split, a City of Cats for more cat photos.
Island Trips
Split is the ideal place to take boat trips to the islands. On our last visit we took a ferry from Split to Supetar. Also see How to Spend 3.5 Hours in Supetar.
Space Invaders
There are a few space invaders around Split. See if you can find them. We found these space invaders.
Food
Split has plenty of great restaurants, Our favorite is the vegetarian and vegan Upcafé.
