Things to See and Do in Graz, Austria
We found lots to see and do in Graz during our 3-day stay, including some weird and quirky attractions.
Graz, like other cities, has plenty of nice buildings to visit, but not everywhere has a slide that gets you down from the top of a hill. That was one of the highlights for me.
We even saw a 2-meter-long snake. This is the only one we’ve seen in 5 months of traveling around Europe.
The Clock Tower & 175-Meter Slide

The Clock Tower is a landmark in Graz, perched high up on a hill. You can take a slide back down to the bottom. It’s 175 meters long with a vertical drop of 64 meters. On the way up is where I saw the snake. I wrote a whole post about this – A Walk Up to the Clock Tower in Graz and a 175-meter Slide Back Down.
Kunsthaus Graz

The most interesting things about Kunsthaus Graz is the unusual shape. To get the best view, take a walk up to the Clock Tower.
Murinsel

Murinsel is an artificial floating island in the middle of the Mur river. Murinsel literally means Mur island.
Graz Town Hall

Graz Town Hall is an imposing building in the city center. The square is somewhat spoiled by having many fast food outlets situated there.
Landhaus Courtyard

One of the top sights in Graz is Landhaus Graz which is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance.
Cathedral & Mausoleum

The cathedral in Graz is dedicated to St. Giles. It’s on the right of the image above. On the left is the Mausoleum

Graz Mausoleum is an impressive building that holds the tomb of Emperor Ferdinand II.

Glockenspiel

Three times a day at 11:00, 15:00 and 18:00, male and female characters come out to dance. To be honest, there’s not much to see.
Graz Gnomes

I spotted these naughty gnomes near the Glockenspiel.
Graz Duck

A nice piece of street art.
Graz Double Spiral Staircase

A double spiral staircase is quite rare but there is one in Graz. The view above looks down on where the two spiral staircases meet in the middle.

The image above is looking up at the underside of the staircase.

This is the view looking down from the top floor.
Mariensäule

Mariensäule is a historical monument in the center of Graz.
Franciscan Church

Parish Church of the Holy Blood

Graz Artwork

I love this painting. If I had a large house, I would buy this as the centerpiece of the room.
Coffee & Cake

After all that sightseeing, you deserve to sit down with some coffee and cake.
